Week of October 30th

Monday (10/30/06)
Students will draft and revise their scary short story.
Homework: 1. Identify the short story elements in "May I Carry Your Basket". 2. Write a rough draft of a scary short story.

Tuesday (10/31/06)
Students will type their scary short story.
Homework: Complete scary story rough draft.

Wednesday (11/01/06)
Students will engage in independent reading.

Thursday (11/02/06) Progress Reports are being sent home with your student(s).
Students will read along with the audio of the Tell-Tale-Heart by Edgar Allen Poe.

Friday (11/03/06)
NO SCHOOL. Enjoy your day off!

Week of October 23rd

8th Grade

Monday (10/23/06)
Students will engage in a self-evaluation of their memoir.
Homework: Choose a story starter and complete the story map graphic organizer.

Tuesday (10/24/06)
Students will engage in the writing process to write a 100 - 200 word scary-short story.
Homework: Complete a paragraph of the scary short story.

Wednesday (10/25/06)
Students will engage in independent reading.

Thursday (10/26/06)
Students will engage in building upon their background knowledge on scary story elements, Tell-Tale-Heart, and Edgar Allen Poe.
Students will play "Scattergories" using scary story, TV shows, and/or movie information.


Friday (10/27/06)
Students will understand and use new words found in the Tell-Tale-Heart.
Students will play a vocabulary game, as well as, create and present vocabulary skits.
Week of October 16th

7th Grade

8th Grade

Monday (10/16/06)
Students will revise and edit their memoir. Students will type their memoirs.

Tuesday (10/17/06) - MEAP testing
Students will continue working on their memoirs.

Wednesday (10/18/06) - MEAP testing
Students will engage in independent reading.
Conferences 5-8 @ Milwood

Thursday (10/19/06) - MEAP testing 1/2 Day
Students will have a MEAP celebration at the end of the MEAP testing.
Conferences 12-3 @ Milwood/5-8 @ Mount Zion Church

Friday (10/20/06)
Students will complete and print their memoirs.
Students will complete their Dear Mrs. Ables assignments.

7th Grade

Monday (10/9/06) - Students will continue creating their positive/negative graph.

Tuesday (10/10/06) - 2nd Hour MEAP testing
Students will revise and edit their positive/negative graph.

Wednesday (10/11/06) - 2nd Hour MEAP testing
Students will be engaged in independent reading.

Thursday (10/12/06) - 2nd Hour MEAP testing
Students will recall, practice, and synthesize the reading strategies (main idea/supporting details &/or predicting) used this marking period. Students will create an illustration to accompany a caption that depicts one of the stories read.

Friday (10/13/06) - 1/2 Day P.M. Schedule
No 4th hour ELA class today due to records.

8th Grade

Monday (10/9/06) - Students will continue writing their memoir.

Tuesday (10/10/06) - 2nd Hour MEAP testing
Students will review proofreading marks. Students will then edit and revise their memoir.

Wednesday (10/11/06) - 2nd Hour MEAP testing
Students will be engaged in independent reading.

Thursday (10/12/06) - 2nd Hour MEAP testing
Students will recall, practice, and synthesize the reading strategies (main idea/supporting details, predicting, &/or summarizing) used this marking period. Students will create an illustration to accompany a caption that depicts one of the stories read.

5th hour only today due to records. Students will be complete their summary project.

Thursday (10/5/06) - Students will identify the main idea and supporting details of a story using the "save the last word for me" strategy.

Friday (10/6/06) - Students will demonstrate their understanding of main idea and supporting details.

8th Grade

Monday (10/2/06) - Students will write narrative leads for their memoirs.
