Week of February 26, 2007

Monday (2/26/07) - NO SCHOOL! Mid-Winter break!

Tuesday (2/27/07) - Thursday (3/1/07) - We will read and discuss the Tortoise and the Hare Race Again by Dan Bernstein. Students will engage in various activities, such as: writing another chapter, changing the ending, telling the story from a different point of view, creating a race flyer, creating a dialogue of the announcer, or comparing/contrasting the tortoise and hare.

Extra Credit Homework: Attend Literacy Night, get a program signed by Mrs. Frazier, and turn program in Friday.

Friday (3/2/07) - Students will write a rough (first) draft of one of the following: a) A new ending b) Re-write the story from a different point of view c) Another chapter or d) A letter to the author or another student
Homework: Complete rough draft due first thing Monday

Attention: My gradebook is closing on Tuesday (3/6/07). All missing work must be complete and turned in by 2:20! If staying for homework hub on Tuesday, work will be accepted until 3:15 that day.
Week of February 19, 2007

Monday (2/19/07) - I am out today due to my attendance at the funeral of a close family friend.
Students will continue their work with idioms by either creating an Idiom Flipbook or Drawing.

Tuesday (2/20/07) - Students will present their Idiom Magazine Ad or Commercial.
Homework: Research and write in a complete sentence one Black History fact. Be sure to cite your source!

Wednesday (2/21/07) - Friday (2/23/07) - Students will engage in vaious activities surrounding the "Separate by Equal" movie. Students will read, write, view, and discuss the 14th Ammendment, Plessy vs. Ferguson, and Brown vs. Board of Education.
Homework: Find, summarize, and bring in an article related to the "Separate but Equal" movie.

Week of February 12th, 2007

Monday (2/12/07) - Students will review homophones by playing "Guess the Homophone".

Tuesday (2/13/07) -
Students will read and discuss an idiom picture book.
Students will choose one or two idioms and begin creating an idiom advertisement or commercial.

Wednesday (2/14/07) - Happy Valentine's Day! :)
Students will listen to and discuss the histroy of Saint Valentine's Day/Story.
Pairs of students will create and share their Valentine's Day letters with the class.

Thursday (2/15/07) - Students will continue creating an idiom advertisement or commercial.

Friday (2/16/07) - Students will present their idiom advertisements/commercials.
