Week of December 18, 2006

Monday (12/18/06) -
Students will begin to read Chaper 6 of Slam! and "Say Something" activity.

Tuesday (12/19/06) -
Students will finish reading Chapter 6 of Slam! and complete "Say Something" chart. Then, they will read Chapter 7 of Slam! and complete "Save the Last Word For Me" activity.

Wednesday (12/20/06) -
Students will read Chapter 8 of Slam! and complete "Say Something" activity.

Thursday (12/21/06) -
Students will read Chapter 9 of Slam! and complete "Sketch to Stretch" activity.

Friday (12/22/06) -
Students will read Chapter 10 of Slam! and create a collage of presents for one of the Slam! characters.
Homework: Continue working on Slam! Project.

Week of December 11, 2006

Monday (12/11/06) -
Students will predict what the novel, Slam! is about. We will discuss Slam! Project Options sheet, read Chapter One of Slam!, and begin Character Information sheet as they are introduced in the novel.
Homework: Complete Slam! Project Options sheet. This is to be turned in at the beginning of class (Tuesday) tomorrow.

Tuesday (12/12/06) -
Students will read Chapter Two of Slam! and continue Character Information sheet. Then, they will engage in explaining and supporting an opinion through the "Save the Last Word For Me" activity. In this activity, students will chose and write down their favorite quote/passage from our reading and explain why he/she likes or thinks that passage is important. After which, students will share and discuss their chosen quotes.
Homework: Complete Chapter 2 (Fill-in-the-Blank) sheet.

Wednesday (12/13/06) -
Students will read Chapter 3 of Slam! and complete the Character Information sheet. Then, students will complete a "Say Something" chart (of notes), which allows them to make predictions, comments, connections, &/or ask questions about their reading. Next, they will discuss these notes with a partner.
Homework: Complete Topic Sentence and Supporting Details worksheet

Thursday (12/14/06) -
Students will read Chapter 4 of Slam! Then, students will engage in the "Sketch to Stretch" activity, which allows them to draw a picture and write a paragraph explanation of their favorite or most important scene from today's reading.
Homework: Complete "Sketch to Stretch" paragraph

Friday (12/15/06) -
Students will read Chapter 5 of Slam!, complete and discuss "Say Something" chart.

Week of December 4th

Monday (12/4/06) -
Students will begin to review for the Treasure of Lemon Brown test by completing the "Mini-test" with their table group.
Homework: Complete workbook pages 40-53.

Tuesday (12/5/06) -
Students will correct the Treasure of Lemon Brown workbook pages and continue to review for the test tomorrow.
Homework: Study, study, study for the test!

Wednesday (12/6/06) - Students will take the Treasure of Lemon Brown test.

Thursday (12/7/06) - Students will complete an author study on Walter Dean Myers.

Friday (12/8/06) - We will begin our first novel, Slam!, by Walter Dean Myers.
Students will read Chapter one and begin the Character Identification sheet.
